Serving Tanzanian businesses

Hosting with support in Kiswahili, not only English

Hosting choices for Tanzanian businesses have tended to come in two uncomfortable kinds. Overseas providers know their job but are far away: they bill in dollars, reply to tickets overnight and have never heard of .co.tz. Local resellers know the market, yet often hand over a site with no control panel, no backups and no means of checking whether it is running at all.

SiteBoma fits between the two, and what makes the difference is distance. Tanzania and Kenya share a time zone, a trading bloc and a working language. Our support team in Nairobi works in Kiswahili and English, so you can describe a problem without translating it first, which matters most on the afternoon something breaks at four o'clock.

Under the bonnet it is standard professional hosting, done with care: LiteSpeed with NVMe storage, DirectAdmin, free SSL that renews itself, daily backups you restore without needing us, and email on your own domain. Prices are in Kenyan shillings, a dollar view is available, and no VAT is added.

Included on every plan

  • An SSL certificate at no cost, renewed for you
  • NVMe SSD storage behind a LiteSpeed web server
  • The DirectAdmin panel, with WordPress in one click
  • Mailboxes at your own domain name
  • A backup every day, which you can restore without us
  • Your existing site moved across free
  • Uptime tested every minute and shown live on our status page

Where your site is physically hosted

Our hosting server is not in Kenya: it is in the United Kingdom, and it serves our Kenyan customers too. Help by live chat, email or ticket comes from our Nairobi team, on East Africa Time.

You will not find a made-up latency number here. Instead, our live status page tests our website, the hosting server, mail, the payment gateway and the domain registry once a minute, and keeps the honest record, bad days included.

Good to know in Tanzania

  • East Africa Time, UTC+3: no difference from Nairobi, so whenever our team is working, so are you
  • Our team replies in Kiswahili and English
  • Visitors on Vodacom and Airtel and Halotel and Yas open your site the same way they open any other
  • Covering Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Arusha, Mwanza, Zanzibar City, Mbeya

Domains for Tanzania

As well as .com, .org and 200+ other extensions, we can register the ones that belong to Tanzania. Our team handles these country domains by hand, so they are not instant at checkout: allow one business day. The invoice comes first, and we confirm the domain once registration completes. Look at the renewal column before you decide, since some extensions cost more to renew than to register.

Extension Register Renew Transfer in
.ac.tz KSh 1,950$15.00/yr KSh 1,950$15.00/yr KSh 1,950$15.00/yr Check
.co.tz KSh 2,310$17.77/yr KSh 2,310$17.77/yr KSh 2,310$17.77/yr Check
.or.tz KSh 3,600$27.69/yr KSh 3,600$27.69/yr KSh 3,600$27.69/yr Check
.tz KSh 6,500$50.00/yr KSh 6,500$50.00/yr KSh 6,500$50.00/yr Check

These figures come straight from our live catalogue, so the price shown is the price charged. Still undecided? Our guide on picking a domain name works just as well beyond Kenya's borders.

How to pay from Tanzania

Ways to pay

  • Visa or Mastercard on Paystack's secure checkout page. From Tanzania this is the usual way to pay, and you need nothing extra to use it.
  • Billed in KSh. If dollars are easier to read, the currency switcher in the menu shows US dollar prices. Whatever you view, the charge is in Kenyan shillings, with your bank converting from Tanzanian shillings at its own rate.
  • Bank transfer, for yearly invoices or bigger projects. Ask us on live chat and we will send you the details.

What we cannot accept, so checkout holds no surprises

M-Pesa at our checkout means Safaricom M-Pesa in Kenya and nothing else. No Tanzanian mobile money service works at checkout, Vodacom M-Pesa included: it carries the same name as the Kenyan service, but it is a different system and we cannot bill through it. Better that you read it here than find out halfway through paying.

No VAT is added to our prices. Should your accountant need the invoice laid out a certain way for local bookkeeping, tell us and we will issue it in that format.

Switching to SiteBoma from Tanzania

1

Share the details

Let us know who hosts you now, which domain you use and roughly how large the site is. Live chat gets the quickest reply.

2

We move a copy

Your files, databases and mailboxes come over to our server and are tested there, while the old site carries on running.

3

You review it

A preview link lets you inspect the new copy. Your visitors see no change until you approve it.

4

Switch the domain

Change the nameservers yourself, or let us do it when the domain is registered with us. Every paid plan includes the move free.

What people in Tanzania ask us

It does not, and since the shared name causes real confusion, here is why. Vodacom M-Pesa in Tanzania and Safaricom M-Pesa in Kenya are two separate systems, and our checkout only connects to the Kenyan one. Mixx by Yas (formerly Tigo Pesa), Airtel Money and Halopesa cannot be used either. From Tanzania you can pay by Visa or Mastercard on Paystack's secure checkout page, or by bank transfer for a yearly invoice if you ask us on live chat.

We can. Its live price sits in the table above, next to .ac.tz, .or.tz and .tz. Our team arranges Tanzanian extensions by hand rather than selling them instantly at checkout, so allow around one business day: the invoice reaches you first, then we confirm when registration is complete. Of the four, .ac.tz is the cheapest and is meant for educational institutions, while .or.tz is the one for NGOs and associations.

You can. Our Nairobi support team uses Kiswahili and English daily, so start a chat in whichever you prefer and expect a sensible reply. We do not claim around-the-clock native coverage of every East African language. What you get is Kiswahili and English, from real people, during Kenyan business hours, with tickets handled outside those hours.

On our hosting server in the United Kingdom; we have no servers in Kenya or Tanzania. Page speed for a Tanzanian visitor depends largely on their own network, so we do not offer an invented millisecond figure. Our status page shows real results every minute.

No. Moving is free on every paid plan and follows a fixed order designed to prevent downtime. We copy your files, databases and email to our server and test them there, while your current host goes on serving visitors. After you check the preview link and confirm it looks right, the domain is repointed, and not before.

Either, as you prefer. The standard package covers hosting, domains, email and SSL. If you have no site yet, or the one you have is an embarrassment, our team builds sites through our website design service and hosts the result. Plenty of Tanzanian customers begin with hosting and a migration and return later for a rebuild.
