M-Pesa Integration Questions
First time with Daraja? Read our free
guide to M-Pesa integration in Kenya.
It explains in plain language how STK Push works, what you need and how long it takes.
A basic STK Push (Lipa na M-Pesa Online) setup on your website starts at KSh 15,000. Business integrations that add C2B confirmation, receipts and a payments dashboard cost more, depending on scope, as the packages above show. Annual maintenance starts at KSh 5,000/year.
Daraja is the official API platform from Safaricom that connects websites and apps to M-Pesa. Through it your system can send STK Push payment prompts, receive confirmations of payments made to a Paybill or Till (C2B), make payouts (B2C) and check the status of a transaction. All legitimate M-Pesa integrations in Kenya run on Daraja.
Yes. We connect WooCommerce checkout to STK Push, and we do the same for custom PHP or Laravel sites, mobile apps, and school and SACCO management systems. The customer approves an M-Pesa prompt on their phone and the order updates on its own.
For most online shops a Till (Buy Goods) is enough, and it is quicker to obtain. A Paybill takes account numbers, which helps when each payment has to be matched to a customer, an invoice or a student. Tell us your volumes and how you will use it, and we will recommend one and help you apply for your own.
All of them: STK Push (Lipa na M-Pesa Online), C2B (validation and confirmation for a Paybill or Till), B2C (payouts from a business), B2B, Transaction Status, Account Balance, Reversal and M-Pesa Express QR.
When the build is finished, we send your go-live application to Safaricom, which checks your business credentials, your website or app and the integration itself. Approval usually takes 3 to 10 business days, and we help you at each stage.
Plan for 1 to 2 weeks on Basic STK Push, 2 to 3 weeks on the Business package and 3 to 5 weeks on Enterprise. Those times include sandbox testing and go-live approval from Safaricom.
Yes. STK Push and C2B payments need a Safaricom Paybill or Till Number registered to your business. If you do not have one yet, we can explain how to get it.
Every call to the Daraja API uses OAuth 2.0 tokens, HTTPS encryption and IP whitelisting. As well as following the security guidelines from Safaricom, we add our own server-side validation.
Yes, through an annual maintenance contract from KSh 5,000/year. It covers API updates, renewal of your Daraja credentials and help with any problem in the integration.
